How a chip and scratch repair actually works
A localised paint repair is not a dab of touch-up paint from a bottle. Once the operator confirms the damage is suitable, the panel is washed and degreased, the scratch or chip is sanded or levelled so there is no ragged edge, and any spots of missing paint are built back up. Colour is mixed from your vehicle's paint code and checked against the panel in daylight, because the same code can weather differently on a ten-year-old car. Base colour goes on in light coats, blended out past the damage so there is no hard repair line, then the area is sealed with clear coat, cured and polished back to the surrounding gloss.
